1x Genuine Recaro A8 Gen1, Black Leather, Black Hardback Race Seat, VERY RARE
Originally introduced in 1989 the A8 was a landmark seat for Recaro and the first seat in the world to have a hard back shell made of plastic.
"The “Sylam A8” seat study formed the basis for development of a new RECARO seat in the late 80s. With the system laminate “Sylam” developed by Keiper RECARO, it was possible to combine high-strength plastics with metal components during production. Ultimately, the RECARO “A8” resulted from the study, in which the process was initially applied in the series. This model, which was named after highway A8 near Kirchheim/Teck, impressed with its highly attractive design. As the first seat in the world that possessed a backrest made of glass fiber reinforced plastic – an outstanding example of the competence in lightweight construction. Its special feature: The shell was self-supporting and was manufactured by an injection molding process. Only the backrest bracket, the adjusters and the connections to the seat rails were made from metal.
RECARO offered customers the possibility of individually designing the seats. The backrest and seat shell could be ordered in metallic silver or subtle black. The standard cover was available in black/gray, black color, fabric or leather. If the right seat was not available in this diversity of variants, individual paint finishes and covers could be chosen from. So it happened that a pink/purple “A8” was shown for seat’s debut at the RECARO stand at the IAA 1989 in Frankfurt. The typical cover for the seat with the RECARO logo in the backrest arose rather incidentally: Originally, a backrest tilt-forward release was supposed to be fixed in this position."
These were VERY expensive option seats on Porsche 911 964 Turbo and a few BMW and Mercedes Benz in Germany.
Production Date of 08/03/1993 so presume this is a late Gen1 seat as it has the deeper bolsters and stripes in the leather in rear corner.
Recently removed from a LHD Chevrolet Corvette.
Just had a full 3 stage clean, leather clean and leather nourish.
Good condition with no rips or tears in the all original black leather.
Correct original embossed RECARO logo in rear leather.
Few very light scuffs on rear plastic but no cracks, a few chips on painted metal side pieces.
The small triangular plastic handle side cover is missing but believe these are available from Recaro.
Both rear handles work and the seat tips forward correctly.
Ideal to fit to Porsche 911, Audi TT, VW Corrado, VW Golf, BMW 3-Series, Mercedes Benz Coupe etc (will require car specific runners - NOT supplied)
Only selling as have three of these seats so this one is surplus to the other matching pair at present.
Only seen one other pair for sale this year and they sold 2 weeks ago for over £2500!
